Deacon Leroy Crutcher

U.S. Veteran

DEACON LEROY CRUTCHER was born to the late Nathaniel Slaughter and Carrie Jenkins on November 07, 1943 and he departed this earthly life on February 27, 2013 at Huntsville Hospital.

Deacon Crutcher confessed Christ as his personal Savior in the mid 90’s at Moses Chapel Primitive Baptist Church where he faithfully served as head deacon, member of the Trustee Board, President of the Senior Usher Board, Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School. Deacon Crutcher loved his church family and whenever they called and needed him he was always there.

He was a member of the Tennessee Valley Consistory #160 and Lincoln Lodge #99. When he wasn’t working with the church or his lodge he enjoyed fishing and watching the game in his chair.

He leaves to cherish his memories to his wife, Vernice Crutcher of Madison, Alabama; one son, Anthony Baker of Huntsville, Alabama; one daughter, Veyonka Owens of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; two stepsons, Lamot Burwell and Tracy McCauley both of Huntsville, Alabama; one stepdaughter, Alicia Burwell of Huntsville, Alabama; five grandchildren and six step grandchildren, and two step great-grandchildren; step mother, Mrs. Ozell Slaughter of Huntsville, Alabama; one sister, Romelia (George) Ivey of Huntsville, Alabama; step siblings: Minister Mattie Humphrey, Delores Ford, Pamela Murry, Howard (Josephine ) Ford, Sharon Ford, and Minister Rhonda (Robert) Tolliver all of Huntsville, AL; five brothers-in-law, Larry Gilliam, Tommie (Margery) Burwell Haywood Burwell, Jimmy Sales, and Robert( Nancy) Sales all of Huntsville, Alabama; six sisters-in-law, Lockitte Carter, Ophelia Johnson, Lorine Tate(Elijah), Pearlie Holman all of Madison, Alabama, Doris Burwell, and Mary Sales both of Huntsville, Alabama; three aunts, Bernice Russell, Mary Ward, DeLoise Slaughter all of Huntsville, Alabama; one uncle, Frank Lacey of Opp, Alabama; one very special cousin who was more like brother, Robert Crutcher; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the Moses Chapel Primitive Baptist Church (372 Mose Chapel Road; Madison, Alabama 35758) with Pastor Joe Hereford officiating. Entombment will be in the Faith Memorial Park. Deacon Crutcher will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.

A visitation with family and friends will be from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Royal Chapel of Memories.

Public viewing will be from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013; and from 8:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the Royal Funeral Home.
